Only buying 512MB of memory?

I highly suggest 1GB.  Everything becomes much quicker, especially games.

Sorry, the Mushkin redline link was only for 512MB. I am getting 1GB, just don't know what brand.

Are you sure?

Yes. If you are really worried about your RAM cooling just place a fan over it. When using UTT RAM with high voltages this is pretty much a must.

I have the exact opposite opinion of most people on here. I would grab fuper fast ram like:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820144517
DDR 500...

If you have a good CPU cooler, this should take you anywhere you want on AIR.
If you can get to DDR500 you should see a noticeable increase in speed. Your CPU will run much faster and you will have much more memory speed without having to use a multiplier. You would be lucky to get 440MHZ ddr out of PC 3200. Thats an increase of CPU speed of only 180MHz. Not to mention your warranty on the ram is VOID.

You have to understand his situation. If he can buy the next level video card as opposed to buying expensive RAM it would be a MUCh wiser choice to go with the better video card. It will give him a much larger performance boost. If Predator was already buying a 7800GTX and picked other top of the line parts then buying expensive RAM is fine, but he is not. In his case it is best to save in some areas and spend more in other ares that would give him a larger performance increase.

Also, with an A64 you do not need expensive RAM to get a good overclock. You can simply use a divider.

I am not too interested in the Geil. If I buy the DFI motherboard, I'm looking at this RAM:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820146390

But then, I don't think I'm going to spent that much money on RAM, period.

$180 for 1GB? Buy Crucial value and get a 7800GT. The Crucial RAm overclocks well for a reasonable price.

One consideration is to buy UTT RAM if you feel comfortable with using high voltages with the DFI. This would help and UTT RAM is pretty cheap. Just check out XtremeSystems forums and try to find some cheap UTT RAM.

I completely agree.

I have no idea. If nobody else here knows how they match against each other I suggest asking at XtremeSystems forums.

Someone told me that the OCZ ValueRAM could overclock extremely well with high voltages, and that the LanParty UT Ultra-D was the best motherboard for it.

The Value VX is the RAM that can overclock well with high voltages. I do not believe the RAM you linked to is VX.

The OCZ 'VX' Value uses BH5 chips.  They are just not tested or binned, so peeds arent guaranteed.

BTW They are just OCZ Value Series, the 'vx' was a sort of joke as they basically are VX, without heatspreaders.

2.5 3 3 7 @ stock, make sure they're the ones

Anandtech got them up to DDR490 at 2 2 2 6 3.3v

http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2392&p=8

Never skimp on the RAM if you're OCing. Dont know how many people I've seen, 'I overclocked and now my comp wont turn on'.  And it nearly always boiled down to crappy RAM.

buy some decent DDR400 and you'll be fine.

And another thing, heatspreader do sweet F A unless there's a fan blowing over them. They trap the heat on the ram

And on warranties, most decent ram gives you warranties up to a certain voltage (2.9 for TCCD based ram usually), not speed.

What is \"sweet F A\"?

So mofoOCXtememadbasta*d, are heat spreaders good or not?

And link me to some of this \"good RAM\" you speak of.

I am also now looking at the MSI 6800GT:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814127158

Sure it may be 10$ more, but it comes with a great software package (A LOT) and better warranty (lifetime).
