Any musicians around? I'd be interested to hear what you play, if you compose or anything.
I'm predominantly a guitarist, but i also have a grade 8 in clarinet and piano. I write, bits and pieces, any solo stuff seems to always turn out like something written by thom yorke, whether thats good or bad I'll let you decide
I have band, slightly more...loud, in musical style. We play a hell of a lot of muse covers, so the piano comes in useful, and i attempt to sing I'm a big fan of his (Matt Bellamy) style of guitar playing, its almost ridiculous the texture those guys can make with so few instruments. My main music influences, on the proggy rocky metal-y indie-y side of things would be:- Radiohead, muse, RATM, BSP, Devin Townsend, Strapping Young Lad (Purveyors of the immortal line: Fuck you, you fucking fuck!) I have a bit of a...fetish...for the later radiohead stuff, the more experimental albums like Kid A, Amnesiac and stuff like Aphex Twin. The weirder the better.
On the other side, classical stuff: Rachmaninoff, some minimalism stuff like Phillip Glass, erm nothing particularly bizzare on this side of things.
My guitar is an Ibanez S470DXQM http://www.madmonksmusic.co.uk/produc...mp;products_id=61 recently purchased from the fantastic mad monks music i have a stratocaster too which i use for more bluesy stuff. I have a Zvex Fuzz Factory duck taped to my ibanez at the moment, and a digitec whammy pedal. This is all i want really, the two together provide an almost infinite amount of bizzare screeches and atari noises.
Nice use of bebo as opposed to MySpace! best of luck! The bebo profile looks alot better than most myspace ones and works well for you. Well done and keep it up
Myspace is better for networking, labels have people employed to search MS for new talent. You should also set up soundclick band page.
You should also set up a press package that you can hand into labels (no one looks at demo's, they go in the bin)
It should contain, bio, CD (With pro looking covers and a jewl case) contact info, pics of you/band, any articles on your music. This will cost but will give you that edge. You need to be seen as professionals.
I used to play bass in a Ska-Punk band called Captain Rik & The Ricicles and we had quite a good following in my home city.
We played all the main venues in the city, but when a certain music promotions company got itself established as the main booking agency for the cities venues we couldn’t get a gig anywhere as we couldn’t afford their registration fees. This meant that we were stuck with the crap venues and it became a chore to play to “one man and his dog†so we eventually fizzled out & disbanded
Used to play quite a few instruments but stopped when I got to secondary school because I thought it uncool (BIG mistake!) but I've been finding time to re-pickup the violin, cello, piano, and carry on learning the guitar where stopped before.
Don't do much instrumental composition nowdays just using my piano for getting melodys and basslines together in my head for DnB and Breakbeat production in Reason.
