Well, apple has done it.  They moved to Intel.  The new MacBook Pro, using the \"Intel Core Duo,\" or new Pentium M dual core.  The new CPU gives the MacBook Pro over four times the speed of the old Power Books.  Amazing.

Not a huge fan of the name but it looks like Apple will be much more viable performance wise once again.

I love the design of Mac laptops, I just hate Mac OS X. Rather, I hate it because it's advertised as \"Digital Nirvana\" when it is the furthest thing from. But yeah, dang the Mac fans who tried to defend PowerBooks in the last 8 months.

G4.... mah ha haaa....

I'd really like to buy one of those as a gaming laptop and install Windows on it. With that mobility Radeon X1600 XT it'd do pretty well. All the same... I could opt for a better laptop at Dell.com (2 GHz, GF Go 7800 GT, 2 GB RAM) for a lot less cash. And a bigger screen. Well whaddaya know! Mactops are STILL trounced by the ever-presented price argument.

*sigh*

Oh well. You know, I wonder if they're going to make dual Core Duo PowerMacs? Allegedly, SuperMicro made a server board with slots for two Core Duos. I want that board. :D

EDIT: I guess I'm not big enough not to do this. :D

i had an older apple g3 lombard, and i kinda liked it, i did sell it to help pay for my acer now but mac (i had classic 9.1) seemed to be a pretty solid system, however i have never used osx

This move will help out apple get a performance edge, and probably cut costs

It's good for Apple, and for Intel.  But, I still won't use an apple, because of the OS, and because of less upgradeability.

I picked up a Mac G3 for free, and I think I'm gonna sell it to contribute to a laptop fund. Windows XP won't work on these laptops, but Windows Vista/Longhorn is supposed to. Its because Windows Vista and Mac OSX both support EMI, a variation of a computer's BIOS which allows for additional features such as ethnernet networking without the operating system having to do any work.

Really?  I had heard that none of the Windows versions will work on them.

In theory, Windows XP can work on these Macs just fine. Windows Vista is to support EFI, but there are some Gateways and HP's which support and have EFI already on them.

I'm all for EFI for one specific reason: OS independent hardware device drivers.
