I'm not saying all games are art, clearly most are not. But do you feel that it is possible for a video game to be classified as a piece of art. I, myself, would consider games such as Shadow of Colossus art, although i can see why others would consider games purely entertainment (to which i would say, is music not entertainment, are paintings not there to entertain us, but never mind)
there will come a time when you will not be able to tell if the person your playing a game with is a real human or a cyber being oney alive in the computers reask yourself about it then when that happens to you
This might be a bit deep, but you could argue that video games are an extension, representation or modification of life. That is, a game like oblivion, with some slight modifications is attempting to represent life, with a real world, as large and adaptable as possible. The comparison to draw would be between that and a painting, also a representation etc of life or the world.
I seem to remember a person being nominated for the Turner prize (grr) with a 3d environment created on pc, of Osama bin laden's house.
Some of the effects of upcoming video games can truly be breathtaking, but I don't play games just because of their graphics. I think some computer games can be considered works of art not for the graphics themselves, but for the sheer creativity and ingenuity put into the game's own design.
If interested in solely graphics, then Crysis and the DX10 patch version of Flight Sim X both have some good screenshots out there! The first and second wave of games designed solely for DX10 should be even more spectacular.
