Does anybody know of any good, affordable art programs? I've decided that I'm going to try to draw on the computer, because I can never get them to turn out the way that I want them by hand. I figure zooming in and turning on gridlines in some some of art program will eliminate that problem. (Also, I draw in my spare time, as you've probably already guessed, and I think that I'm ready to step it up to the next level.)

THIS is a very nice free image editing application. Orginally written for Linux, it has since been ported over to Windows and is very functional.
You could also try Paint Shop Pro (http://www.jasc.com, but was bought by Corel.)
Or Adobe Photoshop (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/)
Why don't you scan some of your work and let us see it? I'm an old school artist myself. I was awarded a scholarship to the Art Institute of Atlanta out of high school, but I turned it down. I was also nationally honored in the \"who's who among High School students\" book.
One tip: Don't ever stop. Once you stop, its very hard to get back into it and the longer you're out, the more skill you lose.
That's piracy, dude. Don't do any of that, it's illegal. Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 is soon to be released, and it's about $100. If you want a free program...
