I am seeing many threads regarding this at Hardware Ware Analysis and other places. I thought I'd post my own here. Does anyone else have an overclocked FX55? If so, post here with details like vcore, FSB, etc. If you do not have an FX55, please do not post here. Thanks.
I was hoping that you would be able to run throught your settings, I have had to RMA the FX55 as it was such a poor chip, It maybe fake, or one thats slipped throught the QA but not something that I would like to own !
Here the set up and testing, I also ran it the system with the signeture..
Vcore 1.6 FSB 245 13X HTT4X 133 Mem Div Asus SLI Dlx MOBO 1 Gig Crucial balistix DDR500 2-4-4-8 /2-3-3-8 Anartic waterchill 120MM Cooling Black ice Rad.
Clocks, 2.6Ghz OK 2.760 OK ( OK but instability a bit ) 2.860 OK 2.9 Failed.
220 X14 No boot 220 13.5 No boot
I used several Ram clock times but the RAM bus will not lock. Benches hardly worth mentioning as My 3200 beat them or matched then - 900 points.... but at lower speeds of 150Mhz..
CPU RMA'd MOBO RMA's Ordered MSI SLI Neo4 Plat New FX55
It will be atleat a week before I can do full run down as I normally write up after Ive finished then do a reverce run on the clock to give the best and the stock results.

Thanks, I dont think this will al be going back soon as it a bank holiday here so nothing get done for a few days so Maybe I can try the settings you have,
I missed that im using water cooling but I will edit that,
I did notice that the CPU was degrading as I tried to clock which isnt a good sign, but if it busts then it breaks. the end..
Here is what I remember as of now: FSB = 340 Multiplier = 10x Voltage for CPU: 1.65v
RAM speed = 533MHz Latency = 2.5-4-4-5
When I first bought the FX55, I had air. I did not even try to OC off of that. Oh and I only had 1 6800U Extreme. Then, I bought the Koolance Exos WC system. Had 2GB's of HyperX PC4300. Got my FX55 to 3GHz stable. Later, I bought the 2nd 6800 Ultra Extreme. Set both up into SLI, running with water blocks.
Some time later, (this happened while I was on this forum) I bought Asetek's VapoChill phase change system, along with 2 more GB's of HyperX PC4300. I got my FX55 @ 3.65GHz. Also, it was STABLE. I could've pushed it more, but my vcore was already at 1.75v (max on my motherboard), and I did not want to risk it. Soon, I returned the phase change (it costed 800$, way too much for a cooling solution even though it was worthit). Went back to Exos WC. Then, I further OC'ed my 6800Ultra Extreme's. But, I had to bring down the FX55 to 3.2GHz.
Now, I have my 6800U Extreme's @ Core speed = 580MHz and memory speed = 1260MHz. I am probably going to take it a little further if I buy the EpoX 9NDA+ SLI or Abit AN8 SLI.
Oh and one more thing. The reason you might be getting a crappy overclock is the DDR400 RAM. Always better to buy faster RAM than compatible because it allows for more overclocking headroom.
Hope this helps.

I was running DDR 500, I ran the both though as I have clocked the RAM very high and it takes it... Give me a while and I will tell you if I can match the clock as I need to re install and give it a try.. I should'nt think it will work though....
Should have a Answer in 45 minutes or So, When I shut down last time and gave up the system wouldnt even boot corrrectly with a Graphics prompt crashing it out.
Did you try above 13X when you clocked??
+++++++
OK seams as there no Posts I will write the rest here..
I tryed the tests but with the same settings, didnt works, try all different SPD and manual RAM clock times, dividers and such like.. Crashing/boot failure @ 2.85
Clockgen reported the RAM speed was OK, CPU-Z reported everything as fine.
It seams odd but confirms that this CPU is junk perhaps its a one off or what ever, I did notice the temps were around 44Oc just after booting there was some artic silver 5 on it block and I added some generic but the AS5 was coating it very thinly.. but I didnt want to waste the cooling paste as i have tried many setting already a doubted that it would run.. DAMB THING..

I had just ran some checks on the system @ stock level, from another tester I found that the FX55 was slower than the 3500 Winnie.
this is the stock scores of a few chips. 3200 Winnie 8857 3800 clawhammer 9083 FX55 clawhammer 10261
For example 3200 winnie @ 2.4Ghz 9490 winnie @ 2.5 Ghz 10117
I have been in touch with AMD who ask where it was from and advised on returning for a replacment I have sent them some details and await a reply from them again.

It dont help that its the Asus SLI Dlx mobo as well, Bt the gigabyte that Ive got works (fine) and I have the same issues there, I get a MSI plat SLI tuesday and im still waiting for my RMA for the FX55, Ive been waiting for a few days for it and it a bank holiday weekend... I guess they wont have any by the time they send one out for me..
AMD just sent info about buying OEM CPUs but ive never had issue with them before one ran a little warm but this is a bit of a joke.
