i dont ever go for intel at all, but i was building a dvr cam server for our surveilance at work so i figured i'd try intel out. some one said for cam servers its good to go with intel, besides the dvr 16 cam card i bought only worked with intel or something like that.

my system:
Motherboard: MSI 915P Neo2 Platinum
Video: ATI (Connect3D) Radeon X700 PRO 256MB DDR3/PCI-E/TV-Out/DVI
Memory: - DDR2 (800) 6400 - 1 GB (2 pcs 512) Corsair
Processor: - Intel P4 640 3.2GHz LGA775 2MB 800 FSB

so anyway,
5 minutes after xp is loaded my pc will guaranteed freeze every time.
it also turns on by it's self minutes after i shut it down.

all hardware fans are running fine. the only heat issue i may have noticed was the south bridge chip which was quite hot at 48.8 C. is that normal?

other wise the system temprature is usually around 38C at the most, and i have front-side-top-rear fans working at full blast.

this is irritating.

Are the jumpers positioned properly? SATA/IDE cables plugged in correctly?

Never heard of a comp turning itself on lol
Problem with Intel chipset boards you need all the info from Intel, chipset INF updates and all that, did know how it went but my memory is not as good as it was, find out what chipset the board as and go to Intel.
If i have got your chipset correctly then this link will give you the info.

INFO

EDIT
Does that south bridge chip have a H/S with fan or just a H/S?

There might be an error with the SATA drivers. Do you have the proper ones?

When you say it turns on by itself, do you mean, when you do Start > Shut Down, it will act like it is shutting down, and then it will just restart?

i wish that it was software related.

when i go start>shut down, it will completely shut down everthing like normal.
5 minutes later the whole pc will power up by it's self.

I've had that happen to me before.  It's happened 2 or 3 times.  It happened when I was walking by it, I think maybe the floor moved the slightest bit, and touched the power button wires together.  But, I'm not sure on that, and it hasn't happened for a year.
But, it was really weird when it did happen.

it's possessed, that's why haha.

i went in and unplugged everything except my video card and memory, started up in just bios and lasted for about 25 min with no lock ups

then i went and hooked up my hard drive back, went into windows and locked up after 5 min. however, after shutting down it never turned on randomly by it's self... yet!

so i then went back in to windows and disabled the h/w monitor software that was installed by the mobo driver cd.

no lock ups for 2 hours now. then i hooked up my eithernet again and shut down, some how it actually stayed off completely.

the only thing now that i have not added back to the system is my dvd/cdr rom.

Could have been something to do with the h/w monitor software that was installed?

just the pci-e ATI card.

the OEM H/W monitor software has an overclocking feature and i guess it was factory set at 1.55v for the NB.
i am typing this message right now with it lowered to 1.50v so i'll just see how long it lasts at 1.50v.
Vcore is 1.388v
ram is 1.90v
fsb 200.

i didnt look at the default voltage specs, this is just what the H/W monitor is running everything at.

maybe that was why my southbridge was running a bit warmer

Is it stable once you lowered the voltage?

Maybe like Josh said, there is some loose connection inside?? And, what if it's the power supply that's causing the problem?..
