Maybe like Josh said, there is some loose connection inside?? And, what if it's the power supply that's causing the problem?..
I don't think it would be the power supply. It would have to be something at the motherboard. Either a problem with the motherboard itself, or the power button connection.
i had not installed any SATA drivers manually, just plugged it right in lol.
That could be part of the problem. So you never installed any SATA drivers? During the installation of Windows you should press F6 to install the drivers.

Could be, though with my intel system, I never installed any drivers for my SATA drive, and it works just fine.

Yeah, I can't imagine it causing the computer to turn itself on but I can imagine it causing the lock ups.
In my opinion, this might have been by an unstable voltage, a damaged wire, or just simply the wire not being fully plugged in. This has not happened to me, but those are just some possible reasons for this. I still think it was an unstable voltage, since now you have no problems. Cause for example, when I used to live in an appartment, we had a pretty unstable voltage and the computer sometimes was just shutting down by itself.
