I used to use Sygate Personal Firewall Professional. Then, I switched to Zone Alarm. Now, I am back to Sygate because I feel it is the best firewall. Thanks SuperXP for helping to remind me of this. :)

Zonealarm gets my vote, however, I prefer a hardware firewall, less chance of going down and it doesnt eat resources.  I find NO reason to run a software one (other than the windows one) with a switch/router with firewall.

Yes agreed. I have a router hardware firewall built-in, and it's a Linksys so it's EXTRA secure. As someone previously mentioned, software firewalls run off of the OS; if there is a flaw in the OS, then there's a flaw in the firewall.

I do as well. But as I previously said about software firewalls,

I just tried Zone Alarm again. Too many complications. I like Sygate, easy & smooth-running. Not to mention that many corporate big-shot companies use it as well.

Sure. Thank SuperXP as well.

Sygate Personal Firewall was all I used for ~8 months. Then, for some strange reason, someone showed me Zone Alarm, and I switched. Now, I'm proud to be back with Sygate.

I would trust Norton the most, but it is a huge resource hogger, as I previously mentioned. I have no antivirus, and I have never gotten a virus either. Some tips on how to protect yourself without a virus scanner:
  • Use a VERY good firewall & spyware scanner.
  • Do not visit sites that have a possible risk of transmitting a virus or trojan horse to you.

Yes. Hence that fact why AVG is free.

I still have 0 viruses, and I have been running without anti-virus for ~1-2years. Just to make sure, I go to Symantec's website and scan my computer using their virus & spyware scanner. None get detected.
