The furor over Rockstar's Bully was one of the sillier controversies the gaming world has seen. A certain lawyer got involved and tried to keep the game from being sold, efforts which of course failed. The game was called many things, and many people who never sat down to actually play it assumed the game made the Bully the hero of the narrative.
All this was ridiculous; Ars Technica saw just how harmless—but compelling—the game was when I traveled to Rockstar's offices to play the game for myself. In our later review of the game, we gave it a nine.

The game was great, and it was wonderful when it was finally releasedand everyone had a chance to see for themselves. "These guys groundtheir stories in the real world, and then they tear it up. So simple,so brilliant," is how game writer Susan O'Connor described Bully when we asked her what games she admired when it came to storytelling. We agree: Bully is one of the better examples of what can happen when a game takes its characters and the world they inhabit seriously.

Why am I bringing this up now? Because the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii versions of the game are shipping, and it's gratifying that the title is going to see a wider audience.I'm looking forward to seeing how the game looks with updated graphics, and hopefully the Wiimote will be used in a few interesting ways. Bully: Scholarship Edition for the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii will both be $49.99, which is a pretty good price for how long the game lasts.
Between this, World of Goo, and EVE Online I'm having a "champion some games" day of posting, but it's exciting that people who may have missed Bullythe first time around will get a chance to try it. Plus, this time therelease has been without all the sound and fury. That's a positive stepforward.
