I have used CAM, I used an engraver (Roland), and It was working off an old Windows Computer. The software was pretty old, and it was 2D.
I have used the SimCity 4 BAT (Building Architect Tool), which uses the free program gmax. You can get Addon packs for alot of different games.
The Building Architect Tool is actually a suite of tools. It includes the Building Architect gamepack for gmax™, the Plug-in Manager, and an updated version of the Lot Editor.
gmax is a free 3D modeling tool based on Discreet's award winning 3ds max(tm). This powerful tool enables you to create models at the same level of quality and better as the models created by artists at Maxis.

You can get gamepak's for Tempest, Flight Sim 2002, Command and Conquer, Dungeon Siege, Trainz, TrainSim, Battlefield 1942.
