Now that Capcom has posted its profits andannounced plans to expand into the MMO business, the publisher is alsomaking it known that plans to continue being involved with the movieindustry.
"We are in the process of working out contracts for severaloffers we received at the Cannes Film Festival last week and hopeto make an announcement soon," Capcom's president Haruhiro Tsujimoto told Bloomberg's news service. "If realized, the projects will have a big impact onthe game and movie industries."
Tsujimoto didn't go into specific detail about which franchiseswould be immortalized on film, but Bloomberg speculated that Capcomwould make an effort to bring more movies to the big screen, in addition to some films based on the Devil May Cry games. Of course, it's unsurprising that Capcom would be planning more Resident Evil movies,as each of the first trilogy's films have grossed over $150 millionworldwide, despite receiving generally lukewarm and negative reviews.Capcom is also working with 20th Century Fox on a new Street Fighter movie; depending on the success of that film, a new series of movies based on the franchise could easily be in the future.
Personally, I'd love to see a movie based on the Maximo games as well as one inspired by Mega-Man.
