This is untrue and you have got the wrong end of the stick, first its PC's that wont play games after 1 week secondly most games are now for the consoles not for PCs and although I like PC's consoles are becoming more and more popular and will be widely used. Also consoles are usually around for ages and you never have to upgrade you machine with the latest hard drive, graphics card or ram just to play a game, like you said lets
Quote:
look at the PS1
the PS1 was first introduced in 1990 and its still going strong, I mean its only got one predecessor (the ps2) which was released in 2001, that 10 YEARS! That the ps1 was in production and the earlier 2Dish games worked on the PS1 as did the 3D 'newer' games for the PS1. So as you can see if you are financially unavailable to buy a computer and upgrade it every week when it needs new RAM etc get an XBOX 360 and play on that or even a PS3 (when that comes out). So seriously your argument is just stupid.
Oh yeh and one last thing, we don't just love consoles this forum has anything and everything gaming and entertainment wise.

I agree with Will, but Consoles are better for Racing games, unless you have steering whell etc, but still, FPS and Beat-em Up is always better on Computer, The WASD Controls are classic!
Computers dont need to be upgraded often, unless you keep going for the cheap, if you have a decent computer, it will probably be suitable for 2 or three years.
Consoles are a reminent of the old Retro Consoles, and arnt expandable, and have many formats, so if you want a wide spectrum of games, you will need to get 3 or 4 consoles!
In My Humble Opinion I think the PC is the best for gaming. everyone is entitled to there opinion and also computers should not need to be upgraded every week if you get the right one from the start. My first pc lasted me about 6 years. My computer I have now is only a 1 year old I have upgraded the graphics once and it handels most games very well. I expected it to last another 3 or 4 years I might upgrade agian when I feel I need it but also consoles have there purpose. as you can tell I am a COMPUTER gamer mostly but some consoles are very good gaming machines. enough said.
Oh I agree with you 'atomic' and so will sam, PC's are the best for gaming they have the best graphics and power to enable someone to play high end games, however I disagree with you on saying if you buy the right computer.

This is untrue if you want to play high-end games and okay my statement about

pc's need to be upgraded every week
is a little extravagent but if you want to play high-end PC' games you do need the latest gaming equipment for you PC and with consoles all you need is the new game for it.

uhmm... Well Jay I would expect you to know that this forum aint just about consoles, look at the topic lists, pc's, entertainment, television, computer arts, photography, thats why he/she posted here. And everyone is entitled with their own opinions.

Indeed. Though I am still trying to think of the actual point of posting this thread... This site looks pretty darn good to me so I dont see why he/she has a need to complain
But of course you're right, everyone has their own opinions and we should accept them.
Maybe those PC gamers should spend more time playing with consoles, only then they would realize the greatness of it. it's true that FPS and strategy game are best played on pc, but in the long run, console's are cheaper. You won't need upgrades every few months for you to be able to play the latest games. I have an x box, and some people like me, have been playing on the box for quite sometime now. And like me, I can also play PSone, GBA etc games on it. Store games in the 120 gig hard disc, rip music, save pics etc.... and even if I still can't go Live, it still rocks!! ( what more if I can go with multiplayer over live ? )....If I want to do other things than that, only then I would turn to a PC... I don't need to upgrade every time a new game's released...
Im not saying consoles are bad or anything I just prefer the PC. I actually have a console a ps2 thanks to my stepbrother going into the navy but alot of those games that are on consoles don't interest me as much as games on pc. and anyways I use a GBA when Im away from the computer and on the road. also you don't need to upgrade every week to play the latest games. I just upgraded my 1 year old pc for the first time last summer and I can play games like DOOM 3 AND Quake 4 not on the best settings but they all still look good.
Yeh you cant beat PC's at gaming, however consoles however are becoming widely available to just about anyone and if you can afford an Xbox 360 you can see the great features for yourself basically in the future you games console will integrate with you entertainment system you will be able to play games, watch movies, listen to mp3's, download movies sync up to your PMP (Portable Media Player) and send information to and from your PC using a Wi-Fi connection. The introduction of these technologies will enable thee techno geeks dream of one box that will do everything.
Anyway back to the present, at the moment PC's seriously rule games consoles because of the PC's ability to multi-task and to be easily upgraded (this costs) the PC at this moment in time the PC will rule the Games Console, however when one box can play games, watch movies, etc that's when the PC's dominance will fall. Oh and another great thing about the cutting edge games consoles (such as the Xbox is that its HD Quality).
However their has long been a debate over which is better the PC or the Games Console. In a recent statement by some high-up Microsoft executive he said, and i quote,
Quote:
"I want to apologize for the dereliction of duty to our company's No. 1 platform, the PC, in terms of gaming," Microsoft vice president Peter Moore said. "We've been a little distracted for the past few years. Mea culpa, we've been busy."
so this shows that Microsoft aint forgotten about the PC and it still thinking of the computers even though their has been a BIG HYPE over the Xbox 360, ps2 and the Nintendo Revolution.
Although consoles are already the best option for some gamers, particularly those looking for something easier and more affordable than the PC, I think it will be a while yet before the PC has any serious rivals when it comes to multiplayer online gaming. The next generation of consoles may offer more inter-connectivity, more cross-platform games, and may even have VGA monitor ports, but until then they have little chance of providing the variety or calibre of game experience currently available to PC users.

Well said Applet Well Said. I think Applet here basically hit on everything there is to be said about this arguement. But there is this little thing that applys to computers called moores law witch states a computers CPU speed will go up about every six months while the GPU or graphics card for you not so technical people out there probably changes about once a month. That is the only thing that seperates computer from console at the moment. Consoles usally change once a year. Now the more I think about it Console and PC are about equally as good. Unless anyone has anymore to say on this case closed. also I think this disscussion should be moved it dosen't really belong under intro.
I didn't know about Moores Law, thats very interesting. I did a wikipedia search and this is what I found.
Quote:
Moore's law is about the empirical observation, that at our rate of technological development, the complexity of an integrated circuit, with respect to minimum component cost, will double in about 18 months.
It is attributed to Gordon E. Moore[1], a co-founder of Intel. However, Moore had heard Douglas Engelbart's similar observation, possibly in 1965. Engelbart, a co-inventor of today's mechanical computer mouse, believed that the ongoing improvement of integrated circuits would eventually make interactive computing feasible.
So basically atomic77 your saying that a computer increases its stats (eg. cpu) every so often? This is really interesting. What do people think of the intergration of other technologies into the 'games console' do people believe that this is a good idea or should this stay soley on a computer enviroment. One of the main reasons I would buy a PC instead of a games console (although more expensive) is the PC's ability to multi-task, surfing the internet, playing a game, downloading music and movies all these things I want so when a games console can do those things and more thats when I will buy a games console.

There has been some valid comments. But overall your missing the point, there is no better than the other, consoles do their job and thats bring gaming to more people that computers ever will.
The new gaming consoles for example the Xbox 360 does exactly what their supposed to do and thats preform better than average computer, they have triple core processors and more memory capable of running HD Graphics, most computers cant do this unless your willing to spend abit of money but a 360 is better value.
At the end of the day,Computer power will always come top,as given the right combination of components and alot of money, you can build a high end gaming monster.I run Dual core sli gaming rigs, that have cost me alot of money, but would always choose my 360 over my gaming rigs, because the xbox its simple to use, games are easily better and it bring peeps together in the biggest gaming community ever.
thanks for that 800, i totally agree with you, computers and games consoles do their own thing and they do them great, like you say anyone can pick up a games console and play it and I think that the best part of gaming is the community aspect of it all, and xbox certainly wins with Xbox Live, which is easy to use and its great to play with other REAL human beings. I would like to see a feature on xbox live which enables PC users and Xbox users to play on the same game together. How cool would that be!
