I was looking through Dell magazine last night and found out that Dell is already giving users the option of using a dual core Pentium D 8xx series for their new Dimension XPS Generation 5.
I wonder why they never considered AMD as a alternative to Intel for processors.

But, Dell is an excellent company for laptops, etc. Good quality (expensive though), at least in my experience. They sure have made their mark of prominence in their mainstream market. If you ask the Average Joe what the best laptop/desktop company is, I place my bet that Dell will be 99% of those answers.

I think most of the reason the average Joe would say Dell is because that's all they hear. HP, they make much more than just computers, and so does sony, so Joe Schmoe wouldn't be as likely to say them. A couple years back he might have said Gateway, but they're pretty much gone now. I do think they make fairly good laptops, but extremely overpriced. My sister just bought a laptop for around 1800 from them. I went back and checked if that was the price she should have gotten, it should have costed her 1400 from everything I could figure out.. That's still from dell. If I went to a different company, she might have been able to get that kind of laptop for around 1000

Yes, HP makes excellent laptops, but their desktops are not of very good quality. One of my friends bought a 1,200USD laptop from HP, powered by an Athlon 64 3500+, along with the ATI Xpress200 Mobile chipset and 8x DVD burner, etc. Great deal. I might buy that one if I get the money.

That's a really good price. Though, I think he should have waited till the Turion is out to makers. You can get it as some stores, but I haven't seen it in a computer made by one of the major pc companies (dell, hp, sony, etc).

Is Turion a dual core processor?

Nope, it's AMD's mobile processor. It uses about the same amount of electricity as the Pentium M (sometimes more, sometimes less), and it's 64bit. Here's a list of a few of them http://tinyurl.com/bpxo6 There is just 35W ones there. They also have 25W versions, but they're a little more expensive.
