Well the game runs fine if it is run first thing when windows is booted. However if u play another game prior to playing Doom, the game runs sluggish and appears to hang. Even the sound gets all screwed up. However as long as it is played first thing when windows is booted up there isnt any problem.
But the game runs soooooo smooth in 64 bit XP ... I cant believe I finished it once in crappy 32 bit mode.... d**n I shoulda played it first in 64 bit.

Well first thing I see wrong is 512 meg of ram. doom 3 uses about 350 meg of ram to run and windows and basic programs use about 300 meg of ram to run. your bottoming out man. i recommend adding 512 more ram.

All ram must be perfect match, same company and same chip set same speed. It must be literally a complete  twin. You see if it doesn?t then the ram latency?s are off and will cause all kind of  problems.

The probable reason Doom 3 plays great when you first boot into Windows is because there are probably not too many background services running & steeling your memory.

But as you use Windows & play other games & such, they seem to be taking up system memory in the background even though you are not using those other programs/games anymore.

Isn't Windows 64-Bit smooth :)
