I've just used this new motherboard with my latest build. It seems to be fairly stable, and it has all the goodies to match.

The board has 3 IDE Channels which allow for 6 drives. It has 6 S-ATA Ports on it too. Both types have RAID capabilities. The board has a built in hardware firewall from nVidia. PCI-Express, PCI-Extreme and some PCI Slots, 4 x RAM Slots, and plenty of eye candy.

The board is socket 939, so I have an Athlon64 3000 with 512MB RAM in there at the moment. Hoping to upgrade to 1.5GB after christmas.

Comments?

The reviews say it isn't too bad, but I'd go for the EPoX EP-9NPA+ Ultra.

I love the board myself.. Why would you choose the other board over this one?

The EPoX has been highly rated everywhere. I cannot say the same for ECS.

ECS Review:

The saddest thing is certainly the BIOS with its scanty overclocking options ? for some reason it doesn?t allow setting a clock-generator frequency above 222MHz.

This defect, however, may be corrected by the manufacturer later. What?s rather alarming in the ECS KN1 Extreme is the manufacturer?s tendency to cost-saving on the electronic components. This board uses cheap capacitors, cheap fans on sleeve-bearings, and obsolete onboard controllers.

I am not saying it is a bad board, I am suggesting better alternatives.

The EPoX is cheaper and performs better.

They tested a whole set of nF4U boards, including the ECS & the EPoX.

The Epox 9NPA+ Ultra is the fastest board in the roundup at stock speeds. It was also the highest overclocker at stock speeds, and the second highest overclocker when the bus was overclocked. The Epox is an incredible value whether you are looking for a board that will run fast with stability at stock speeds or a board that will satisfy almost any Athlon 64 enthusiast. The range of overclocking options and the overclocked performance are among the best that we have seen, falling short only in the memory voltage area, which tops out at 3.1V. The feature set is more or less average for Ultra boards, but the overall performance is clearly standout. Based on the standout performance and solid overclocking that we achieved with the Athlon 64, we are pleased to award the AnandTech Gold Editors Choice to the Epox 9NPA+ Ultra motherboard.

I see. I'm still a fan of my current board though, with its 3 IDE Channels and all that semi-useless eye-candy.
