How to effectively get rid of malware.
This is based on a recent attack i had on my PC whereby i literally did go through the ins and outs of my pc and thought i'ld share it

Right so when you get attacked by malware[malicious ware][includes Spyware, Viruses and the such], you usually have yoru firewall to help you. Then again you might have a useless firewall such as Norton hehe
which might not pick it up. However if anything starts going missing from your PC [which hasn't been deleted by the user] XP picks this up and alerts you with a "your computer has been affected" ballon [the lil poppy-upppy things at the bottem], now here's how to deal with your PC when that happens ->although you can do this even if it dont popup as a security measure

FIRST, do not do what the ballon says. Don't click there to see programs to help it. They all cost money and are generally crap. What you do is go to google. Search for

Ad-aware SE Personal

it's free and an effective piece of software. Right what you then need to do is run a full system scan. This will detect anything of concern. After the scan is complete, LOG all things listed [teh software has its own logging system but u might want to keep a list on papaer for easy refferal.]

now go to start menu > run > regedit.

in XP you have a nice window so you can search easier. Search through the registry files for any files with teh same name as your infection log. Delete any that remain. There shouldn't be many but some get reproduced if we dont get rid of them now

then you need to get a good firewall. I suggest ZoneAlarm.

hey presto you'll have an effective security system. Run a check with ad-aware every so often [i suggest every 2 weeks to a month as the developers update their definitions]

Best of luck
