As I was perusing Newegg the other day, to see if any Core Duo motherboards had finally arrived (they haven't :() I got to wandering around Newegg, Wikipedia style. \"Somehow\" I ended up in the Video Cards section, looking straight at a 7800 GS AGP graphics card for $289, the exact price I purchased my X800 XL for not eight months ago. It kind of inspired me to upgrade my machine, one last time.
As is typical with Newegg hunting, however, it's easy to get lost in the swarms of new things you just *might* be able to get. I couldn't find much, bloody socket 478... but maybe you guys could help.
I was thinking of getting a new motherboard (with an Intel chipset), the 7800 GS (or PCI-Express options, if you can find a supported Socket 478 motherboard), a 16x DVD+/-RW drive, a good, new case and a power supply (350W should be plenty)...maybe a nice new sound card, too. My budget is $450 including shipping...
...ideas?
I'm configuring my list now...
