New screenshots of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation have surfaced on the PlayStation blog. Confrontation will be the first SOCOM game to hit the PlayStation 3, and, like Warhawk,it is an online multiplayer shooter that forgoes the single-playercomponent. Up to this point, very little about the game has beenrevealed, but it appears as if this tiny trickle is the precursor to adeluge of information. We should be able to learn much more about Confrontation very soon, as a cover story about the game will be featured in the May issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly. The two images shown feature one brand-new map as well as a returning fan favorite. Crossroads, the most fan-requested SOCOMmap according to Sony's blog, will make its return, while the new mapwill be a 16-player arena that appears to take place in severalcrumbling buildings. The game will also feature a new camera mode, butas the developer reinforced in the blog, "There is an option to useclassic SOCOM camera! It looks and feels like the original classiccamera!"
Look for Confrontation to be released later this year, both on Blu-ray and through the PlayStation Store.
I've been a SOCOM die-hard since the days of theoriginal; I stood in line for the PS2 Ethernet adapter just to enjoythe multiplayer action that seemed revolutionary so many years ago. Alot has changed since then, though, and we've got some pretty bigexpectations of the title. I'll be keeping a close eye on Confrontation, so watch out for more coverage.
