What is the difference between a socket 939 and 940 for the mobo?

That one is looking pretty good.

RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820144151
Hard Drive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822148015

All premodded since I don't want to mod myself and want to look cool.

940 would be for an Opteron. That would be overkill for almost anyone's situation.

You want a socket 939 Opteron. I would suggest the Opteron 146.

I would get Corsair Value Select. It has a CAS Latency of 3 and is basically the same price, if not cheaper.

I would get the Hitachi 7K80 drive. It probably offers the best price/performance ratio.

The case is a fine choice.

One major note to Glen:

The RAM you've chosen is DDR2, which is not supposed by AMD processors or motherboards.

And OCZ Value Series is clocked at 2.5 CAS.

I thought the fact that it had a CAS Latency of 4 was weird.

Once again, that would be DDR2, which is not supposed by AMD processors or motherboards...

OCZ ValueRAM @ 2.5:

Is that good or bad?

Also I'd like to  have 1gb stick since I'll be upgrading this over time.

What kind of RAM do I need?

Only DDR1 is supported currently by AMD processors and motherboards.

The OCZ ValueRAM I posted is a very good choice.

Better than the OCZ would be this:

http://shop1.outpost.com/product/3746176?s...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

This is the CHEAPEST performance RAM I've ever seen. 1GB of HyperX PC3200 @ 2-3-2-6 for 99.99$.

I would recommend the HyperX over the OCZ.

It is best to get a single 1GB stick, IMO. That way you can upgrade to 2GB without using all four slots.

What should I do for CD Drive and Power Supply? About how many watts should I look for?

Nothing wrong with using 4 slots. The only previous problem was that 4 sticks of 512 would default to DDR333, but the Venice core fixed that problem.

To Glen: I would stay away from generic RAM. Go with the HyperX I recommended. You won't be sad. I already have 1 512MB stick, I plan on buying another to total 1GB.

To leave room for upgrades but not over the top I'd say more then 400W and less then 500W.

Also that RAM had 5 stars so I thought it might be good.  If I do get a 1gb stick can I go up to a total of 4gb of RAM?
