iVirtua Review:

Vin Diesel was originally slated to play the emotionless hitman inXavier Gen’s pyrotechnic videogame adaptation but, for reasons unknown, was replaced by Timothy ‘Die Hard 4.0’ Olyphant. Not that it makes muchdifference; both are as bald as coots, sport thick necks and saylittle, although it must be said that Olyphant has a better pair oflips. But I digress…

‘Hitman’ is based on Eidos’ popularthird-person shooter series. It’s a fast, bloody, violent foray intothe same lunkhead territory as previously occupied by Diesel’s ‘xXx’duo and, more recently, ‘Shoot ’Em Up’. Olyphant is Agent 47, agenetically manufactured assassin who gets embroiled in somefar-fetched conspiracy involving a dodgy Russian politician. There’s acool opening credits sequence, but beyond that ‘Hitman’ doesn’t makemuch sense, is encumbered by clunky dialogue, some amateurishperformances and clichéd set-pieces we’ve seen umpteen times before(including the old fail-safe six-gun stand-off). The lack of characterdevelopment isn’t surprising either, since most of the cast isdispatched in a mire of bullets and blood. That’s the gist. Do youstill want to see it?

Hitman is a 2007 film adaptation ofthe video game series Hitman. The film is directed by Xavier Gens andstars Timothy Olyphant. The script is written by Skip Woods. Hitman wasreleased on November 21, 2007 in the US, and 31st in the UK.

Plot:
Quote:
Agun-for-hire known only as Agent 47 (Timothy Olyphant) is ensnared in apolitical conspiracy, which finds him pursued by both Interpol and theRussian FSB (The successor of the KGB). When one of his assassinationsis botched, 47 sets out to find out who set him up. Along the way heencounters numerous other hitmen assigned to take him out.

Basedon the top-selling, award-winning videogame franchise, the HITMAN is agenetically-engineered, elite assassin known only as Agent 47. Hishallmarks are a lethal grace, unwavering precision, and resolute pridein his work. But even 47 couldn't anticipate a "random equation" in hislife of exactitude: the unexpected stirrings of his conscience and theunfamiliar emotions aroused in him by a mysterious Russian woman. Hitmanstands right on the threshold between video games and art. On the wrongside of the threshold, but still, give it credit.

Washington Post  Desson Thomson - 70
Thebest movie derived from a violent computer game we've ever seen. Youcan take or leave that kind of qualified high-five, but, for us, it wasa thoroughly entertaining experience. Think of bargain basement "JamesBond" amped up into TV den-sittin', mouse-clickin' overdrive. But withhuman actors.

The two lowest...
New York Post Kyle Smith - 12
If someone ran this guy through a scanner, the readout would say: “Mark down and stock in straight-to-video aisle."

AEurotrashy vidgame knockoff that misses its target by a mile. Numbinglyunthrilling as it lurches from one violent encounter to another, thepic's dark roots in an electronic, non-dramatic medium are plain tosee, and unsuspecting gamers lured to theaters will soon wish they wereback home participating in the action themselves.

On the film review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes, Hitman has received a Rotten rating of 11% basedon 56 reviews, and it has received a Rotten rating of 6% from 17 "Creamof the Crop" reviewers from mainstream news outlets.] On the similarwebsite Metacritic, the film has received a metascore of 35 out of 100 based on 22 reviews.

Hitman

IN CINEMAS NOVEMBER 30
Agent 47 (Olyphant) has been educated to become a professional assassin for hire, whose most powerful weapons are his nerve and a resolute pride in his work. 47 is both the last two digits of the barcode tattooed on the nape of his neck, and his only name.

The hunter becomes the hunted when 47 gets caught up in a political takeover. Both Interpol and the Russian military chase the HITMAN across Eastern Europe as he tries to find out who set him up and why they're trying to take him out of the game. But the greatest threat to 47's survival may be the stirrings of his conscience and the unfamiliar emotions aroused in him by a beautiful, damaged girl...

Based on the best selling videogame, Hitman is about the ultimate assassin: professional, unflinching, emotionless, stylish with expensive tastes.
