All you ever hear about on the news and internet is how movie piracy is becoming such a big deal and that Hollywood and the government will finally be cracking down on the pirates.  All I have to say is SUCK IT UP!  The software industy is losing so much money due to piracy.  Software piracy is more and more common than movie downloading and causes more money loss.

Which causes more loss from a company?  Millions of people downloading a  900$ program or someone downloading a 25$(ticket price + DVD price) movie?  All I have to say is take a lesson from the software companies and stop bugging us with you pitiful reprimands.

But how many people that actually pirate software are really going to go out and buy it if they couldn't pirate it? To a certain extent, piracy can actually help. If people couldn't pirate Windows there would be even more people going to Linux, So, in Microsofts case, piracy actually increases their market share.

Piracy won't be stopped anyway, so it doesn't really matter much.

I wasn't saying piracy was a bad thing in this case.  I am just tired of hearing about how the government is going to arrest 15 year olds for downloading pirated movies.  It's stupid!  Hollywood has enough money on their hands to support themselves with piracy, and like the government can punish every single pirate out there.

Yes, I also think they whine a bit too much. Instead of making 30 million a year, they make 25? What difference does it make to THEM? 5 million dollars is a matter of days worth money for them.

The movie industry have every right to bring the legal system down on pirates.  What the pirates do is illegal.  It's overboard though to slap a full copyright infringement fine on a teenager for downloading a couple movies.  Give him/her a warning first, if they continue well, they've got whats coming to them.

I agree that they have the right to enforce that their software is sold legally, but I believe that they go out of control with it sometimes.

but think where that money could be going that they are putting into this, is it really worth it for the government to do this? Piracy is no threat, and i agree it's illegal and not right but i dont want my tax money & social security going down the drain. they should first send them a warning in the mail from the FBI then they get a fine for the second time then they goto Jail for the third time that makes sense to me. but you know what makes me even more mad? these people i know who do it think they are 'Leet Hackers' and that makes me more mad because they dont know a thing about programmming or hacking not even little baby registry hacks.

Piracy is illegal and it is stealing, even though it is stealing from huga multi-million dollar companies. It is still wrong, and the companies have every right to enforce the law on the people stealing from them. I do, however agree that some of the punishments are quite harsh. I don't think they should be throwing people in jail for downloading music or movies. That is just stupid. I do think that there should be warnings given, and if the person continues to pirate media, then they should be given a fine or something. They should not be arrested.
