How does a motherboard work? I know that it is the main circuiting board for all connection cords in the computer, but how do all the signals reach it? Where does all this get transferred? :ticlo:

Most of it gets transferred through electrical signals and by IDE cables (IDE = integrated drive electronics) or by SATA cables. (serial advanced technology attachment)

mother board is a hub. It organizes all input. The IDE,sata,USB.firewire ETC is all organized by the mother board. Info is stored and selected by it.

Info is sent to the CPU then ram then sent to the HDD, monitor printer mouse and keyboard ETC.

every piece of hardware works together to make it one.

What I've read in the past is that your Motherboard is the motor of a Automobile with many add-on's.

On the MOtherboard, you have chipset's which are the central brain of the motherboard.

These chipset's are usually called the Northbridge & the Southbridge. The North controlled the AGP/PCI Express x16 & Main Memory & HTT(FSB) & the South Bridge handles data from the PCI and ISA slots, integrated components such as Audio codec's etc.
Here is a link with more INFO.

Here is a Definition of a Motherboard
The main circuit board of a microcomputer. The motherboard contains the connectors for attaching additional boards. Typically, the motherboard contains the CPU, BIOS, memory, mass storage interfaces, serial and parallel ports, expansion slots, and all the controllers required to control standard peripheral devices, such as the display screen, keyboard, and disk drive. Collectively, all these chips that reside on the motherboard are known as the motherboard's chipset.
On most PCs, it is possible to add memory chips directly to the motherboard. You may also be able to upgrade to a faster PC by replacing the CPU chip. To add additional core features, you may need to replace the motherboard entirely.

Motherboard is sometimes abbreviated as mobo.

And here is a link which will probably help you understand.

how do you get around to assembling and disassembling a computer with all of its parts?

do you just use extra sample computers laying around and use them?

You go out to the store and buy the parts individually. You have to first plan out what parts you want, then go to the store. If you have someone to help you, it will be much easier.

Otherwise, just read the manual that comes with the motherboard. That should help you.

One thing to remember. Never ever touch a part until you have neutralized all static charges that emanate from your body. If even a small jolt of static touches the card/part, you just fried it, meaning it's totally useless.

Hope this helps.

Yes, you can use most of your spare parts providing that they are compatible. Just make sure you gently remove & replace anything on your PC.

And try not to cause static around your components or they may discharge & not work or something.

Use anti-static bags to place your HD & Graphic?s Card into for the time being wile you are figuring out where everything is going to go.

And before you do anything, try to discharge yourself by touching your metal case or any other metal before you touch anything in your PC.

GOOD LUCK  :)
