I use the new Nvidia 71.84 drivers when playing half life 2. I get any where from 68 FPS in realy busy complex areas and 295 FPS in less complex areas. All and all I run average 157 FPS. I find 90 % of the game is played with 157 FPS to 200 FPS. This is running high quality image settings in drivers. 456 MHz core 1.18 memory over clock 75 HTz. I cant run a 460 / 1.2 over clock with half life 2. This game has a bad habit of working a GPU 3 times harder than any other game.

needless to say FPS dose play a part in how well a game runs and how smooth it runs. I can not run high quality on my wife?s 5700 LE over clocked. It runs like 12 FPS to 60 FPS if I do so and looks really bad. It clear the point is to be able to run the highest of quality settings and still play at high FPS. I do have unreal tournament 2004 and play it running 110 FPS and toping out at 310 FPS with high quality settings.

what can your card do in games ?

one last thing. a intresting fact about doom 3. Its locked at 69 FPS not 60 FPS.

In game use com_showfps 1.

Also you can use doom 3 as a benchmark tool and know what avrage FPS your runing in doom 3.

in game type BENCHMARK

this will test your avrage FPS for each rez posible.

ok new news some how i managed to unlock the cap on doom 3. now i cant turn off the FPS indacator but doom 3 benchmark gave me a avrage of 240 FPS on ultra setings and high detail in drivers. Will post a pic of this shortly.

the counter dont stay at 60 FPS any more it bounces from 59 FPS up to 257 FPS. at first when you do the benchmark it was 60 FPS on all tests. Some how i unlocked that . dont know how. but a friend did the same thing and his says 60 FPS on all tests.
