When I get my Alienware I really want to overclock it so I'm wondering how safe it is?  Can I completely blow the whole thing?

I'm probably just going to raise the FSB and lower the muliplier for a while until I feel the need to do some more.

If you are overclocking an Alienware laptop, I would highly not recommend it.

Yes you can blow the whole thing, if your not careful. If you want to overclock, I would suggest building your own computer. You can get the parts cheaper, and if you do fry something, you can easily replace the parts.

If you do overclock anything, make sure you have a very good cooling system.

To seriously blow something you usually need to push your system hard.  As long as you go up by increments, checking for instability each time you'll be fine.  Once you do get instability bring it back down to stable levels.

I'm not sure how Alienwares overclock and it is a laptop so parts are a lot harder to replace and troubleshoot.  As such I'd be careful.

Oh and Nitrous you don't need a super good cooling system to overclock.  With complete stock cooling you can still overclock a moderate amount (unless you have a Radeon 9800 Pro :P).

I was asking about the Alienware because that's the only computer I have.

I think I might build a computer in my spare time and buy parts with my birthday and christmas money.

Yeah, but usually when you want to overclock, you want to go all the way.

Hey it could keep your lap warm (or burning) when you go camping. but the battery would run out to fast. they have laptop coolers they hatch onto the base with fans built in them but i dont know how well that would cool the laptop. you might just want to take some of your face plates of the bottom and stick some fans in there then make the bottem bigger using fiberglass mold.

Laptop cooling is not very effective, especially with a high end model. I would not reccomend overclocking a high end laptop as parts are almost impossible to replace yourself, and Alienware aren't likely to accept it back for repair.
