Could you open it? I tried it and it didn't work.

I'll try and open it for you, yeah.
It would appear the software I gave the link to only exports it, and not imports.
However, there could be a problem. the .726 format could be propiertary and there may not even be software to open it, you might only be able to use it with the codecs and the device it was made for.

I've kind of found a way round it. First I record it on my MP3 player, then play it and put the headphones right next to the microphone on my computer. The only thing is Windows sound recorder only records for a maximum of one minute. Does anyone know any good recording software which can record for longer than this?

Hey Matt.
Found out how to convert them, the only program I could find was a demo and will only convert about a minute?s music, would have to get full version to do bigger files.
The Program is AVS Audio Tools. You can download it HERE
After converting this is what I ended up with VOICE_18.mp3
You can hear it on this link
Could hear lots of background noise so cleaned it up a bit.
You can hear the cleaned up one on this link
How to convert the File, First thing is to rename the file from VOICE_18.726 to VOICE_18.g726, just the ?g? you have to add to it, now AVS Audio Tools will recognise it, when you start up the tool click on Convert audio files first, then ADD the file on the next page when the box comes up change the frequency too 8000 Hz and change the Bit Per Sample too 4 bit, then press yes, now you can play and hear the file that you have imported, when ready click on the file to highlight it in blue then press next, here you can mess about for the end product you want, think I set mine for MP3 44100 Hz 128 Bitrate, have fun.

Jim
EDIT
Links don?t seem to work, try below ones.

Cleaned up version.

EDIT
Just run them through Windows Movie Maker brought the file size down to 367KB, other are a bit on the big side at 1,878KB

It's a .726 file.

Are you sure it wasn't a mobile phone that you recorded it with?

Anyways, yeah it's an audio format. Commonly used in mobile phones.
123 Audio file converter might be able to help you.

hi, i've got the same problem matt has, but like yall i've never heard of a .726 file till now.  anyway, i just went and traded my 128mb one in yesterday for this 256mb one that costed only bout $3 more, so i came out good.  anyway, my old one saved recorded files as wav, but the new one saves as .726, and like matt, i need it converted.  i've tried all of the programs recommended on here to try to convert the file to wav or wma or mp3, but neither is working.  i've tried audacity, 123 audio file converter, river past audio converter, and i think one other.  the only one i haven't tried is the OSS Audio Converter Pro, which i'm in the process of downloading now.
Anyway, i tried using 123 Audio File Converter, but .726 files won't show up, so i changed the extension to .g726 as recommended, and it shows up.  So i go on to convert it to WMA, and click the Convert button, and it says that it was converted successfully.  Well, the output folder was the desktop, but the WMA file isn't there.  i tried converting it to WAV and MP3 also, and the output file still isn't there.  what might i be doing wrong?  i guess if i can't get it converted, i might go back and exchange this for my old one   beins how i kindof rely on the recording function and it saved to WAV.  Any help is greatly appreciated... thanx.
