Need a bit more info.

What brand and model router?  Does it have wireless?

Are you using Windows XP?

You might need to gt into the router's setup and change a few things.  Most routers come out of the box with default settings that should enable you to connect though.  For example, almost every router that I know of comes with DHCP enabled by default, among other things.

Also, what kind of internet connection do you have?

Try this to see if you're computer is connected to the router properly:

In the Internet Explorer address bar, type:

http://198.162.0.1   or
http://198.162.0.0   or
http://198.162.1.1

If you have a router that has a browser based setup utility, the next thing you should see with at least one of those is a window asking for a login and password tot he router.  Typically, one of those three IP addresses above will be the routers address, it just depends on the manufacturer.

It's a Linksys compact router. Yes I'm using Windows XP. I use DSL. So I hear I had to use PHOPP is something similar.

I asked tech support at Linksys, and they gave me the IP http://198.162.1.1 so I'll go into IE and check if that works.
Oh, and it asks for my ISP username and password. Yeah I don't know it >_>

Thanks I'll try this later.  :D

If its brand new, when it asks for your username and password, just put 'admin' into the username field and press enter.  Thats usually the default for most routers.

Check the instruction manual that came with the router, it may specify a different username/password.

I thought it was different because the example username and password was \"name@isp.net\" and \"3h4hd98439\" or something. I thought it was like a username and password for Bellsouth (my ISP)

And it doesn't have an instruction manual, just an 'easy' installation disk. lol

On that disc there should be a digital manual in .pdf format or something similar.  It should be able to tell you what the default username and password is.

THIS page will tell you the default usernames and passwords for the major router manufacturers.

I entered the IP address in IE. It said I needed to be connected to the internet. >_>'

I'm about ready to give up, I've spent over 2 hours trying to get it work now.

Yes. I've made sure. When the router is plugged up, my LAN is up instead of 'limited or no conectivity' like usual.
