Spymac 3 celebrates its 3rd anniversary in just a week. I feel, and I believe that many others would agree, that Spymac 3 was and still remains their best web site to date.
Spymac 3 was the golden age of the site, I think. It's hard to top perfection, I give them that.
Still, all things must pass.
Frankly, this post seems rather nonsensical. Firstly, it's impossible to top perfection, except in advertising slang. Perfection is, per definitionem untoppable. Secondly, you seem to suggest that something "perfect", needs to pass. That doesn't make sense either. If there was something like 'a perfect website', why would it have 'to pass' ??? Surely, earthly perfection has to pass because on earth all things are transitory. However, the revamp of Spymac isn't owed to the perishability of the former site. It's caused by human volition. However, things perfect don't have to pass by human volition. A perfect match needs never pass due to human design, but only due to nature's course. And then there is perfection not bound by earthly fetters, divine, transcendent. Such perfection needs not pass in eternity. So what's your point, really ? SpM 3 was perfect but it had to end ? Nonsense, utter nonsense.
First of all, if "It's hard to top perfection" is just a figure of speech with no relative worth, than why take it for anything further than its face value?
Second, every tangible object of human creation is destined to pass or cease to exist.
Lastly, I, just like everyone else, am entitled to my own opinion and I shall thank you to respect and acknowledge that. Going out seeking personal arguments of preference is the not the best plan of action in my opinion.

Anyway, in the review I was talking about how the interface makes it look like you can drag video's, music, pictures around the site, anyway here's a photo so you can see what I mean:
Also this is what it looks like when you switch between the family filter (on/off) apart from the image their is no warning
I don't really get this money thing, seems to me like the old points system we had here, but will have to investigate properly to find out more.
Arabic language and rating system... a little "unfinished"
Details of the Spymac premium membership packages
OK so heres a copyrighted (from another site) offensive image with no adult content warning (just a family filter on/off button), and no IRCA content rating to stop a home filter. disgraceful, especially as well as it is a potentially educational resource with many uner 18s who readily use it, as there are over 1,000,000 members. Not even myspace allow this.
NOTE WITH BOTH OF THE IMAGES BELOW, IN SPYMAC, FAMILY FILTER IS ON! So what do I see when its off?
It has been an issue ever since version 4, spymac has gotten greedy and has now a ton of corporate assholes. Adult content is a ton of BS and rather wrong, I used to go on there all the time. If you want to go to a mac forum, use macrumors forums. Spymac was good in version three, now, they just want money. Just like any other american coporation, turn something good, into something for money and worsen the quality.
Spymac Leapfrog is definitely one bad toadie from the pond!
I guess it really isn't easy being green.
Spymac Leapfrog: the last croak?
The word's out: Spymac Leapfrog has just croaked.
Spymac has croaked once and for all.
Leapfrog? What the hell? That little electronic thing for kids?
So everybody thinks of the learning comapny when you say Leapfrog. That's why you shouldn't name a product aids or depends, for example. People think of the other thing, usualy much worse.
Spymac Leapfrog- yep, that's the true, blue toadie!
Looks like the words spreading...

In first view spymac.com should change to leapfrog.com !
I want to know your opinion about the article.

Half-baked article, by people who clearly have a chip on their shoulder and want us to fail. Some criticisms were valid, some were from the fact that it was in progress getting the classic up, but the attitude was such that it's hard to take it seriously.
Half-Baked? Id say leapfrog isn't even baked at all.
Simple elements to our criticism...
Lost its way - No reference as a mac site, its a simple rip off of many other services already out there. I have no reason to go to spy mac any more, as it doesn't even live up to the standards of MySpace!
Even the design is shabby, with its my space style graphics. I don't even think it will attract the 13 year old girls with their playboy glitter graphics.
Nothing about this leapfrog is innovative, and its cluttered with useless features, and if I wasn't told, I wouldn't know it was a mac site.
Its made up of pure hardcore members only now, it seems they want to "bash" in a true spymac fashion, our site.

I was actually really surprised at Leapfrog. Over the past couple years, I've kind of strayed from Spymac, but always stopped by the shoutbox to say hi to old friends. Now that Leapfrog is out, i find myself participating a lot more and really enjoying all that it has to offer.
Most of the people who joined Spymac did so to discuss all things Macintosh, so when they go to spymac.com, they should be greeted with Mac news, etc. The whole "Leapfrog" thing should be secondary. It's great to have such focus on the members, but we can't forget why we're all here to begin with.
Spymac is just now one bug gallery with its videos and audio, no real niche, like deviant art, youtube, indeed and say, myspace.
The only other option I see is to make Leapfrog a separate site, minus the Spymac name. As it stands now, it's basically a mashup of youtube and myspace, so the whole "Spymac" name doesn't really make any sense.
Nail on the head there, narco.

I totally agree with Rosalinde and narco. I really think the whole Leapfrog part of the site is just a mixture of myspace and youtube. I really think Spymac should do something more unique than that (like having its own mac like style but not copying successful sites that way). Honestly, if Spymac's selling point is only that, I guess I will rather go to youtube and watch things everyday. At least, there are more things to look at.
I'm having trouble because it's TOO YouTube. There's already one of those out there, does the world really need another? I completely understand the community attraction to multimedia, it's fun as hell. But it feels to me like I'm going to have to wade through tons of stolen pics and videos to get to anything resembling Spymac community content. And I love Spymac for the existing community. I spend waaay too much time looking through the galleries meeting people, commenting to total strangers, and generally wasting my time!
That said, I definitely feel Leapfrog is on the right track to providing an enhanced online experience that really is community-centric. I just shutter at the thought of wading through megabytes of material some 13 year old with a broadband connection thinks is hilarious and has to waste our pages (and time) with.
And I don't like the color scheme either, but what can you do?
Spymac just wont listen...

I think a good idea would be for Leapfrog to be a sister site to Spymac and have Spymac as a news site with a comments section and have it tightly linked with Leapfrog forums for the comments etc... and that way you don't confuse new members with the Spymac name for a social networking site and you don't lose the Spymac side of things either.
The user comments say a lot actually. People want a Spymac that works. Spymac would be much better off to perfect Leapfrog than to work on the next version of Spymac.
And......
I think this deserves all caps.

I really don't understand the need for the SSN of someone who earns some money from spymac....especially at the small amounts that have been mentioned. Has anyone checked what the threshold requirement is for something like this? If I win a prize in a raffle I don't have to give anyone my SSN in order to receive it.

Bah, I never thought Spymac was any good for the frist time I saw it. It was slow and kinda confusing and after the frist day of looking around I never whent back or thought about it till this was posted.
Still no reply from Spymac concerning the interview.
I think i'll ask their PR company (yes they have PR people!) for a statement.
I just wanted to throw a subject out their for debate, what do people think about spymac and copyright issues, for example a lot a copyright material has been upload to spymac either as pictures/video/audio, do you think spymac will start to recieve legal threats?
Note:
I actually liked the club aspect of old spymac, with spydisc and the hosting, which gave a very mac feel and added nicely to the experience, with all the secret agent kinda spy stuff, its all lost! It went downhill form SM 3 as far as the SPY mac theme goes

Totally agree. It feels like a YouTube emulation was the initial goal, INITIAL being the key word. I like to think more Spymac personality will bleed into the design over the coming weeks after the launch.
AtariST response:
-Popular contributers earn money based on how much ad revenue they produce - Flyxia Does this! -18 different languages
All very well, not a reason id go to spymac alone though -Live videochatting --
I have MSN for that -The FileSucker lets you collect video messages and files from your homepage, blog, myspace etc. FileSucker is at the core of Leapfrog.
Umm isnt that like copy and paste -Snapshots, audio recording right to the browser.
YouTube has this
Nobody will pay for this new service...

Clean? Show me some white space. There isn't a spot for the eye to rest. It's totally in your face, abrasive design. And, if you like Easter eggs, the colors are lovely.

I missed much, just a bunch of videos from other sites uploaded and some bad color choices.

We are not nitpicking the endless bugs we found in leapfrog, we are actually discussing the concepts behind it, its unique selling point or lack of it, and what they mean for spymac and its future, admittedly in a sceptical manner.
