How many new and updated 45nm mobile microprocessors is Intelplanning to launch alongside 'Montevina', the next generation of itsCentrino laptop platform? It's going to launch 15, industry insiders claim. Count 'em...
Montevina is officially due to launch at some point in H1 2008,though at the last Intel Developer Forum, a senior executive let slipthat it will debut in May.Montevina will incorporate the 'Cantiga' chipset, with an updated LANchip, 'Boaz', and 'Echo Peak' and 'Shiloh' providing wirelessconnectivity. Echo Peak combines Wi-Fi and WiMAX. 'Dana Point' isIntel's planned WiMAX-only module for notebooks. Shiloh, by the way, isan 802.11n-only module.
Cantiga's integrated graphics will support both HD DVD and Blu-rayDisc "natively" - in other words, it'll support HDMI output and HDCPanti-rip technology.
The processor details confirm a recent report that Intel is to revise its mobile CPU naming system.
