How would you guys size up an intel 945GM graphics card. Is it any good? Does anyone know the video memory on those? I know its shared because the intel 8945GM is the chipset for the whole mobo but whats the max setting?

Thanks

Any kind of integrated graphics is going to be terrible.  My guess is it gets the video memory from the system memory.

The graphics core of the 945GM is based on the 950 Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA), which is also used in mainstream desktop chipsets, such as the 945G and the 945GZ. This graphics core is DirectX 9 compatible, but not entirely DirectX 9 compliant.

Like its predecessor (915GM), the 945GM uses a portion of system RAM as video memory. Up to 224 MB of system RAM may be dynamically allocated for image processing

If the results from the graphics benchmarks in PCMark05 suggest that the 945GM might be able to handle graphically-intensive 3D games, 3DMark05 patently deflates this false hope. As most well-informed Tom's Hardware Guide readers know, the Mobility Radeon X300 and X600 graphics processors both offer four-pixel pipelines and two programmable vertex shaders. These graphics processors run at a comparatively faster clock speed and also feature a 128-bit memory interface (X300 64 bit). In other words, an integrated graphics solution such as Intel's GMA950, which lacks hardware vertex shaders and has a narrower memory interface, just cannot meet the requirements of 3D games.

Taken from article HERE

Doesn't look too good to me. Try to get a Geforce Go 6200 or Mobility Radeon x300 or something similar.

Pretty good site HERE breaking down the various notebook GPUs and a few mainstream games that will run on them.

I want to be able to run alot of good games. It is going to be my every day machine aswell (Id have to sell my acer to help pay for a new one). But it also has to be capable of truly kick butt games, most commonly found in lan parties. Because this would also be the PC i take with me
