I'm still in high school, but I'm thinking of trying to learn HTML, or at least be more familiar with it. If i were to do this, I'd just buy a book lol. So, how long would this take me? And of course, how hard is it? Thanks.

It stands for Hyper Text Markup Language and it basically tells a web browser how to display a webpage. I started learning basic HTML when the internet first started getting popular when I was a senior in high school (1995). Since then, lots of features have come about.
Before buying a book, I'd resort to the internet first to see if its something you want to dump a little money into to learn. There are many sites that will help you get started without the need to spend any money. You can be proficient with basic HTML in a matter of days, and be proficient in more advanced HTML in weeks or months, depending on how much time you put into it. Its important to understand how and why it works though, I firmly believe this will accelerate the learning process.
Ooh thanks. :D I took the HTML Quiz to see what I knew, and I made a 60% lol. It DOES seem like something interesting. I figure I'll need it for my job one day, whatever that may be. Either way, something nice to put on a job application. :P

I would recommend learning HTML if you are planning on going into any computer related field, even if it has nothing to do with the internet or programming. HTML gives you a feel of how scripting works and how the computer translates codes and what it does with them. HTML also is not hard, and you can make a very nice web page in only a few lessons from tutorials. If you are serious about learning a lot of HTML, here is an awesome tutorial that shows you step by step how to create a webpage. In fact, the tutorial is showing you how to create a webpage called \"Volcano Web.\" It includes all the codes, images, and resources that you will need. In each lesson you do something to the volcano site, and then you use some of the information you learned to add things to your own website that you are building along with the tutorial pages. We use this tutorial at our school for our web design class, and I think it is one of the better ones out there.

Yeah, I'm taking HTML this year, and it's easy once you get the hang of it. Not only that, but these message boards use similar code, so I was quite used to it when I began.
