Don't worry - Im a follower of the "Web 2.0" Hype - conferences i've been to though do show it as the basis of the future web, though I wholly agree with you that the buzz word is overused and the number of startups this year and the number that will inevitably fail are quite amazing, all with names ex the vowels and sites with rounded corners... hey we have had the same logo for ages and we have a table based design come on now... hardly web 2.0! No beta, no gallery, no IM system planned. The tag cloud is an experiment
Were not going the way of spymac, the trashy loose community that sites like digg, youtube and spymac form, everybody hates each other and pretty much are very ruse and arrogant, and impersonal. I like to think we aim to be far from it, just like I hope you guys at MacGUI do.
It's good to know that iVirtua is not, in fact, going Web 2.0; though I must admit the tag cloud had me worried.
We will stand stead-fast, against the tides of popularity. Even if our sites only get 1 hit a day, we still will not give in. We will remain strong! We will resist! We shall do things our way!
I as well as a few of my helpers at Mac GUI are planning some pretty amazing stuff (yeah, I know that's what everyone says) for the coming months. I think you'll be impressed.
We are going to completely change how a web site is laid out, presented to the user, and navigated.
Sounds pretty cool - Web 1.0 Revival.. nah! More Web 3.0, me thinks
The "Tag Cloud" is finished in true table based iVirtua syle with a lovely slow loading jpg, which is a picture I took in London the other week
Web 2.0, a phrase coined by O'Reilly Media in 2004, whilst refers to a perceived second-generation of Web-based services—such as social networking sites, wikis, communication tools, and folksonomies—that emphasize online collaboration and sharing among users. O'Reilly Media used the phrase as a title for a series of conferences, and it has since become widely adopted.
Topic: contains some info on web 2.0 along with the 10 best web 2.0 sites.
i personally couuldn't care less whether its 2.0 or not. if it looks nice, is accessible, is something i'm interested in and doesn't piss me off i'll love it

See if you can break it up. For example, that huge graphic on the home page of Mac GUI is actually 3 sepatate graphic files.

Yeah, I suppose you could call it Web 3.0.
Basically what I'm setting out to change is how people interact with a Community-focused site. Right now, we've already got loads of community sites, but do they feel like a real community?
The tag cloud shows at present the most popular terms selected via an algorithm, ex various generic words. Clicking a "tag" searches the forum thus showing all instancies of the word.
This is as far as that system will go - but as I said, it is a part of iVirtua 5. iVirtua 5 will bring something known as folksonomy to iVirtua in a big way!
iVirtua is 100% Web 2.0 - because it fits in with what Web 2.0 certainly as far as I'm concerned means.

That's called slicing - you can optimise images in many ways - in all honesty the image looks fine and works fine, it's not causing any problems.
We don't run and pop up, pop under or dynamic float ads here - we only run contextual or inline text based advertisements - my only suggestion would be a pop under from a nother site you saw, a time delay popup from another site, or, however unlikely, spyware on your computer (even though it's [probaby] a mac your using
What was the popup advertising, or showing? WE don't even use popups for PM's here!
