I know this is kinda old news but I thought I would bring it up here as a debate to see how you all feel about it. Everyone should know who Jack Thompson is hes a florida lawyer who helped with the big uproar with the hot coffee scandel and slapping GTA San Andreas with a AO rating. He also tryed to get a ban for the popular life simulator the sims 2 claming that there was full frontal nudity.  I personally think if Thompson keeps going on like he is about violence sex and video games soon the video game industry will be so torn and damaged there will be nothing left to play. What do you all think.?

He was just doing it for the money. An AO rating is 18+. The previous rating was 17+. What is the difference in maturity between a 17 and an 18 year old? Next to nothing. Loads of kids in their early teens have probably played that game. How many 18 year olds have younger siblings?

Hot coffee scandal? Great. I suppose that most people found simulated nudity on a video game more offensive than the serial killings, drug traficking etc that goes on (in the game).

Um some countries like australia have banned or concidered banning games like GTA San Andreas. I belive it was in Germany that the old fps Wolfenstine was banned because of the killing of nazis.I supposed it could be alot worse. Yeah thats true that there isn't much difference between ages 17 and 18. But i think the big issue is when preteens get into games like that somehow.

No game is indexed here because you kill Nazis , but it contained swastikas and other Nazi symbols which are very strictly forbidden here.

Yeah. I think Germany is one of the few places in Europe where it is actually illegal to be a Nazi, isn't that right Jakob?

Yeah that's what I meant. I think you are allowed to publicise that (to a certain extent) in other countries e.g Sweden.

Finland even still has the swastika in some of its military flags, but it already had it before the nazis used it.

My personal disliking toward Jack Thompson.  Is that he like to like and fabricate the truth. I undetstand the  Hot coffie mod. But the issue he is trying to make is that kids can pull it off. Fist off There is no way in hell a kid can pull it off. A child would have to know how to install a hard drive into a PS2, meaning they would have to know how to take one apart and put it back together. Stuff that is real complicated and requires adult supervision or knowing somthing about engeningering and game design.

Then he gose on about video games corrupting kids. When last I checked most young kids can only get games if parents buy it for them. Then go on about some fake statistics. Then govenment did took some statics  and proved it all wrong. Then he still rants and raves like he knows what he is talking about.

He is like a spoied kid who wants every one else to not have fun becasue he can't All his info based on the simple Idea that he thinks he is  right no matter what. That alone makes the law degree that he is still on woth the eqivalent of toilet paper.

Well considering the increase in school shootings and violence in america there maybe some truth to games messing up kids minds. I personally don't agree with anything Jack Thompson says but they did get GTA SA to get a adult only rating. Im sure we wll be hearing more about stuff like this as games get more violent.
