European commisssioner for justice and security, Franco Frattini, is calling for a unified crackdown on the sale of violent videogames to minors.

The EU politician is hoping to introduce new legislation within six months, proposing that tougher sanctions are imposed on retailers caught selling mature-rated titles to under-age consumers.

"I want to harmonise rules punishing people illegally selling products, people not controlling and checking identity," Frattini told Reuters.

The politician wants unified rules across Europe, but also expects individual countries to decide which titles should face sale restrictions.

"We cannot judge from Brussels which videogames should be prohibited," he said.

well it seems abit pointless, since a child can just go onto amazon ask there parents if there allowed to buy a game and voila, they get an 18 rated game of amazon. In shops fine but I haven't been in a shop where they would sell a game to some one younger than the age, Im 15 and when i went into my Local Games shop to buy Canis Canem Edit, formally called Bully, they wouldn't allow me to buy it even tho im 15.

honestly there isnt going to be much of a difference, it is a simple cry out to shop owners to check for ID when selling games like GTA, no real biggy

but i do agree with the guy there are to many stupid nooby kids of at the age of 12-15 who get there parents to buy it for them.

It IS the parents fault in the very end when they complain that the game is highly inaproriate.

If games have a certain age tag on it (18,16 etc) then people should stick by it.
