Problem:
Make a one sensor display keyboard.
Optimus
Tactus
does not have physical keys, which means
there
are no restrictions on
their
shape and size.
Yeah, you thought the Optimus Maximuswas the holy grail of keyboarding -- then you saw the Optimus Tactus, agiant touch sensor display tablet keyboard that could do all the sortsof crazy stuff the Maximus can't even touch, like playing movies andbeing a gigantic color swatch. That is, if it weren't a concept. (Thenagain, the Maximus started out as a concept as well just a couple of years back,so who knows.) The only thing we don't get: the name. Tactus?Touch-sensitive doesn't exactly shout tactility to us, but since it'sall just theoretical at this point, maybe by the time keyboards likethis exist we'll all be typing on shape-shifting tactile membranesoverlaid on touchscreens. That is, if Apple's patents haven't already blocked everyone else off from going there.
If you thought the Optimus Maximus OLED keyboard was cool then mad Russian designer Art Lebedev has something even cooler up his sleeve.
Meet the Optimus Tactus, a whopping touch-sensor that you canprogram with keys or pretty much anything you like and even use it todisplay videos. Yes, it’s a bit barking and, yes, it’s still only aconcept but so was the OLED-based Maximus.
The one thing you can be sure about is that when it does arrive [maybe], it’ll be so expensive it will make you cry.
Even the new budget Maximus is designed to incinerate your wallet. Jump for another shot.-Martin Lynch
