Driver problems with me too, I had Suse 10 the other day, and Ubuntu installed There ok, GUIs not bad, but I have no use for the open source Os'es unlike with Web Development
I use and have been using the PCLinuxOS distribution for 4 months. I haven't had many problems with it yet, although it doesn't like disconnecting iPods unless you pull the USB cable out.
I find the great thing about it is it's hardware detection (which is based on Mandrake/Mandriva's very user-friendly Hardware detection software) - it usually configures hardware with helpful 'wizards' like in Windows XP, therefore making it easier to use than those editor-based distributions.
Personal opinion? I think it's probably the easiest-to-use linux distribution I've tried (and I've tried about 7). I quite enjoy using it, my old Windows computer is now collecting dust in a corner of my room.
[EDIT:] I don't reccommend Debian-based distributions (like Ubuntu), because they don't work "straight out of the box". This is due to the fact that Debian are very supportive of copyright laws and therefore they don't include "commercial filetype" (i.e. mp3) support without you having to do tonnes of configuring.

How else do you disconnect
I would use Debian-based distribributions either, I think the only good use for Linux is Web Development/Servers, Red Hat is amazing, as is Apache and its open source counterparts, Linux isnt all to well suited to the Desktop, and Suse has the best functionality in my opinion, but the advantages are alot greater with OSX or even XP/Vista.
