Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima noted that, asgames gain a status on par with Hollywood blockbusters, developers aregetting more recognition for the art they create. "Whenentertainment becomes digital, there can be a great collaborationbetween games and other kinds of entertainment like movies or evennovels," he said in an interview with Reuters.
Quote:
"All these things might form together to form a coherent medium."
Kojima admitted that he couldn't predict precisely when this will happen.
"But the trend is there, things are happening and I believe that convergence will happen sooner or later."
Kojimaacknowledged that the expectation that Metal Gear Solid 4 will helpsell PlayStation 3 consoles created pressure for him - but it was notnecessarily a bad thing.
"Indeed, there is pressure. There isalways pressure. But I'm not talking pressure in a negative way. I canuse it to push up the bar for what I'm creating. In that sense there'sa positive pressure."
The noted developer, who has indicated thatthis will be his last Metal Gear Solid title, promised that theupcoming game will wrap up all the stories of the prior games in theseries.
"I'm not a genius like George Lucas - I didn't have this story planned out," Kojima said.
"Ialways tried to finish the story in each game. But by some miracle inMGS4 I was able to resolve the mysteries left behind in past games andresolve the side stories from past games."
While MGS 4 will be Kojima's last title in the series, that doesn't mean it will mark the end of the franchise.
"MGSwill always be around. I feel a responsibility to continue this seriesas long as users demand it. But it doesn't mean I'm going to sit incompletely.
"I'll probably take a different role in the nextgame. Maybe I'll sit in as producer and let the young staff takecontrol of the new series. I really want to go on to new things."
