I wasn't too pleased to hear that Yahoo! is involved in this mess, especially going as low as joining Microsoft.
I don't see how joining Microsoft is in any means \"low.\" I like Microsoft's products, XP is without question the best operating system I've ever had the pleasure of working with, perhaps even the best user-oriented operating system to have ever been made. I like the Office suite a lot, as well. They offer a lot of good benefits to \"Genuine\" Windows owners, a lot, if not all of it for free.
Microsoft AntiSpyware, Windows Media Player, Windows Movie Maker, Windows Media Encoder, all kinds of really excellent, dependable and quality software for free. Frankly, I hope to god that AOL gets its butt kicked by Microsoft and Yahoo.

Google is working with Gaim to make theirs. Gaim is already the top instant messaging program and with google it can only get better.
GAIM is hardly on top, I'm willing to estimate Trillian pulls more customers than GAIM does. Between it's user friendliness and overall functionality, Trillian has a lot on GAIM that appeals to the overall consumer and end-user.
I sense that Google is going to be the next Apple. Aimed at no one in particular, I find that there are a lot of Google fans. I hesitate to use the term \"fanboy,\" simply because those who admire and prefer Google software seem to have a sort of \"fanatical\" attitude that mirrors, to a lesser degree, the fans of Apple Computer products.
Hmm. I think I'm going to post that on my website.

Concurred. Trillian has a less retarded stance on user friendliness, and it doesn't use the default Windows XP skin, it uses it's own very small, space efficient skin. I have always felt Trillian leads to a much less cluttered workspace.
Yahoo and MSN are obnoxiously huge, and AIM, apart from being the world's most effective spyware airport, is also annoyingly large. I don't really see much of a gain or a loss overall by Yahoo and Microsoft teaming up.

I agree. I love the trillian interface. Now, I can't say that I've ever used GAIM, so I can't compare the two. But, as long as I'm happy with Trillian, why switch?

Do I know how to use Linux? No. I therefore ask, why is Linux so good if I can use my computer perfectly well without it? I'm not saying it's bad, but most people don't know Linux, and, frankly, shouldn't have to.
Do I know how dismally pathetic Linux would be as a mass distributed operating system now? Yes. Linux isn't user friendly, and, as such it cannot become a widespread, successful operating system for the overall mass of home users.
Linux is a good operating system, but it isn't for anyone but users who are willing to accept a higher level of knowledge for operation, or for users running servers of one brand or another. I didn't decry Linux, mind you, I just like Windows XP a lot more. It's user friendly, and I'm less interested in spending months learning how to just make my computer work, to then learn how to use some of the programs on it.
Honestly, I will never know why people mindlessly slam Microsoft. Honestly, if they made bad software Bill Gates wouldn't be the richest man alive.

The whole thing with linux is that there are so many different kinds. For the average person, it's too many to choose from. Now, for computer geeks like myself, I like linux because of the many different versions. That isn't how it is for most people, though.
