Microsoft has announced its competitor to Google Docs &Spreadsheets: Microsoft Office Live Workspace. Rather than offer aweb-based version of all of its office products, Office Live Workspacewill be an extension of Microsoft’s leading desktop applications forword processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software. The featurewill allow people to store and share documents from Microsoft Officeonline, allowing users to access their files from anywhere andcollaborate on them with others.
While optimized for Office 2007, Windows Office Live Workspace willsupport documents created in OpenOffice and StarOffice, as well asOffice XP. It will also allow users to share their contact lists andcalendars from Windows Live.
If you’re interested in trying out Office Live Workspace, you can currently sign up for the beta. The service will be free to use, though will initially include a limit of up to 1,000 files.
