... but what if you lose it?

Mobile phones are closer to becoming smart wallets, following agreement among mobile operators on an approach to near field communications (NFC).

NFC is a short-range wireless technology like RFID tags, which are used to track stock by retailers.

The tags inside phones could have personal information stored in them and so could act as car keys, money, tickets and travel cards.

Mobile firms representing 40% of the global mobile market back NFC.

Can't you just see a whole new crime wave approaching, fraud, theft, and selling of personal details. Wonderful.

If this went live i'd give it a week before the whole device is cloned and used to obtain all your details.

I think that this technology is a possibility, but i would wait at least 5 years for them to make it secure enough to actually work well in our environments, i mean god knows who could get access to your credit card details, home address and pin number to access your car...

Here on Brazil you can already use your mobile phone as your credit card.
Your credit card is linked to your mobile number. You give your cell phone number and shortly you receive a SMS message with a confirmation number. If informed correctly, the transaction is accomplished.
I don't like this RFID hype... It just looks too unsecure.
