The founder of interior design and lifestyle magazine Wallpaper, launched a new magazine called Monocle, a high-end business and cultural magazine, positioned as a "trendy Economist". Where Wallpaper was targeted at style-conscious bachelors, perhaps this is for style-conscious investors?
According to Brand Republic who I met at InternetWorld 2007:
Quote:
It will target wealthy opinion formers. As well as offering business coverage, reportage, culture it will feature luxury goods, which will give it access to a lucrative advertising market. The paper said that (founder, Tyler) Brule has raised as much as £5m from private investors to fund Monocle, which will publish 10 times a year with a price tag of £5 and aim for a circulation of 150,000.
The new "Monocle" magazine is not to be confused with the satirical magazine of the same name, published irregularly from the late 1950s until the mid-sixties.
This is the second magazine founded by Tyler Brule who, at age 27, founded Wallpaper then sold it to Time, Inc. after only a year of publication.
I bought a copy today and its pretty good, well priced at £5, if you look at what you can get for more... most gaming/computing magazines are 6-7 quid, decievingly, you get a lot more with monocle, enconomist like content, and more thoughtful cultural and creative content
