Users of Windows Messenger can now report suspected sexual predators of children with a mouse click.
A "report abuse" icon will soon appear on the chat software as a result of work by the UK's Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP).

Users will be encouraged to click the icon when they suffer or witness inappropriate sexual contact.

CEOP said, if necessary, reports would be passed to police forces around the world to track down sexual predators.

...but what about misuse of the misuse buttn? Will people do it to annoy their mates? for pranks? Will anyone take it seriously? At least its a good measure and a step towards better child internet protection

Because the reporting is not anonymous CEOP hopes to filter out any nuisance or malicious reports of abuse.

The tab will be seen on MSN Messenger and its replacement Windows Live Messenger.

Anyone who is being sexually "groomed" is being tricked so they probably wont know its coming, but most people are smart so notice a sexual predatpr from a mile off... they have names like pinkxplayboyxbunnyx@hotmail.com they have no friends no other online presence and some stereotypical interests Thats my thoughs on it...  Anyone who gets caught up with one is completely stupid anyway, I woud never meet anyone I find onlne nless I speak to them on VOIP/video conference and get to knwo them very well...

Im not sure if its as easy as the Hotmail junk mail report button; you probably have to give your address, but that doesnt mean to say people will go to the legnths of creating a fake one

Any measure against these sexual predators, however flawed, could help save at least one life in the long run, which isthe important thing, after all, its only a button... but there is great temptation to press it... however, just like those who prank call child line or even 999, they waste valuable time when there are real isues that are potentially not getting through.

What i said... is there might just be too much hassle to abuse the feature... as with most of the similar systems, like Phishing email report systems
