Though originally reticent to put its full weight into the online arena, Nintendo has officially announced (after a few confused announcements of logged connections) its one millionth unique player on its Wifi Connection service. Reportedly belonging to a Japanese player logging in for a dose of Animal Crossing: Wild World, the total represents a surprisingly fast adoption of the service.
Though the company has yet to hit perfectly on target with any of its WFC implementations, perhaps most interesting about the way the company has executed the service since the November 2005 launch is the agility with which they can experiment from title to title. With the promised pre-game VOIP and Pictochat-like text communication being added to the forthcoming Metroid Prime: Hunters, it will be interesting to see how the company continues to shape its online experience both portably and on console over the coming year.
