Yeah, you heard it. it's the opera party. Opera are giving away free keys as the 10th anniversary.

Now for the single reason that firefox users won't use Opera, is no longer a barrier. You can expect Opera's share to rise now. :D

I don't see how you couldn't :P

It's dang amazing how opera can support so many platforms, and it's dang amazing how it can include so many features.. for instance, as someone else put it on slashdot,

Quote:
Built-in mouse gestures, tabbed browsing, BitTorrent client, mail client, irc client, RSS reader, completely customizable interface, screen reader ... cross platform ... ability to (easily) shut off images, flash, animated gifs, cookies, doesn't take 4 minutes to clear its cache ... And its all of 3MBs.

Compare that to firefox, and you would be needing at least 20mb... compare that to IE ALONE, and you're looking at more than 80mb.

And ontop of all that, it's incredibly fast across platforms.. for instance, I used to use it on my original pentiums because firefox just wouldn't load.. it was incredibly laggy.

Oh, and if you think Opera does not support plugins, themes and extensions, then you are deeply wrong.
So for a 3mb download, it is EXTREMELY worth it :D

Wow.  I didn't know it had tabbed browsing and a Bittorrent client in it.  Awesome.  I'm in the process of downloading it right now.

I used Opera for about 2 to 3 years before Firefox1.0 came out.

Perhaps, this might give me a reason to go back. Who knows?

So, is the free serial key deal for an unlimited time?

Edit: Never mind. I just read it lasts for one day only.

I haven't been able to get the Bittorrent part of it to work.  Do I have to uninstall BitLord first? (so that it wouldn't take BitLord as default)

Nemesis, no. the serial key is for version 8, and it lasts as long as you want.
What you read is that they are only available for a day :P

The catch is, you don't get support like payed customers, and it won't work for version 9 which will come out relatively soon. however, you can get one for version 9 if you reffer 250 people to opera.

Josh, I'm not sure how the bit-torrent part works. But I know opera integrated a bittorent client into it as there was a big slashdot article about it a while ago.

I know the serial lasts forever, but I was wondering how long the offer was lasting.

It is 6:40AM in Texas now, and the offer is still valid. O_o

I find that pretty hard to believe, considering the ad blocker in firefox was based on opera's... if you change the options (like you are supposed to) then you won't see
pop-up/under Ad's.. you can even use UserJS to block out things like google Ad's and such.. (although I like google Ad's as they can be interesting, and without them google wouldn't be as far as it is now)

There is no ad-block feature for Opera.

Sorry, I did not read Kahrn's post. I just checked through Opera preferences, and I see no ad-blocking anywhere.

Kahrn, could you provide us with the exact directions on how to activate this?

There are still some issues with Opera. The font in Gmail is a bit messed up. If you try to do the Fast Reply option on this forum, it will freeze up, and you have to Refresh the page for your post to appear.

Little things like that can add up.
