Why Get AMD Opteron (64-Bit) Processor?s which are faster & $ cheaper $ in dollars.

AMD?s Integrated Memory Controller runs at the CPU Core Frequency.
- As the CPU frequency increases, Opteron?s memory controller becomes more efficient.
- Each CPU has dedicated bandwidth.
- Bandwidth increases with more CPU?s.
- Get yourself some nice Memory & you have a solid efficient system.
- Motherboards for S 940 & 939 are 100% compatible with Dual Core Athlon 64's & Opterons.

---------------------------------
Why you should ?NOT? consider Itanium, Pentium 4/Prescott & Xeon for Servers unless you have money to blow.
- Memory performance scales with the FSB frequency.
- Additional CPU?s share bandwidth & make problems worse.
- To compensate with this performance loss you need to stock up on a lot of Ram.
- You need new Motherboards to support new Dual Core CPU's.

I would vote Opteron *and* A64 FX, but it won't let me vote for both, for some strange reason... <_<

Xeon used to actually be better than Opteron, but AMD's X86 architecture is whipping Intel's butt.

Intel has been trying for 18 months to try & match the Opteron Speed & efficiency. I think the Opteron will finnaly dominate the Workstation/Server matkets.

I hear that Microsoft will be using 8-Way 2.40Ghz Opterons for all there offices in Euorup & N America. That is like 50 Billion Dollars worth. :)
Good for AMD.

I agree. They also cost cheaper. There 8-Way though is really fast, with a hefty price tag on them :)

Tyan is the BEST server-motherboard manufacturer. Their design and architecture cannot be matched by their competitors.
