I'm kind of a n00b at overclocking, so could someone give me some tips and hints on how to proceed with an FX-53, socket 939, Clawhammer core?....

Should I use FSB, Multi, etc.?

Bump up your ram as much as it will let you.  (Raise it 5 MHz at a time, then do a benchmark or 2)

Then, Bump up your multiplier, .5 at a time.  Test each time.

Once you cannot successfully complete a test, and your temps are still manageable (under 50C full load), bump up your Vcore by .5 V or so.  Continue OCing.

For maximum overclocking, you need good cooling as well. The stock HSF won't cut it. So, invest in some good cooling, such as a Zalman or Thermalright.

Right now, I'm using a Zalman 9500CNPS. *Awesome* HSF. But, I am also looking into the Thermalright Xp90C, Xp90, & Xp120.

I've heard that the CNPS is one of the best air heatsinks out there.
