Microsoft will reportedly be opening up registration for @live.com email addresses starting now. Not many details have been provided by any sources, and Microsoft has no official statements regarding the news.
Also unknown is the scale at which access will be granted for the members of the public that would like an @live.com email address. But so far, it’s being reported that the roll out will take place in China and the US.
If and when the access to @live.com email addresses occur, it’s expected to provide an opportunity for Windows Live users to get in while they can, with an email address name they actually like. As I imagine the @live.com email addresses will be heavily integrated into the larger Windows Live suite of services, Hotmail lovers that have run out of names (and numbers) will be happy to have the chance to start fresh, in so many words.
UPDATE: I just got my @live.co.uk and @live.com address
