Yes, they are great. However, I would suggest getting a 3000+ as opposed to the 2800+. The 2800's multiplier is locked at 8x while the 3000+ is 9x and is unlocked down.
Also, you may very well get a much higher OC then I did. I've seen overclocks past 3GHz with a Sempron 2800+.
I really can't see recommending anyone to get a non-64 bit system (I'll assume your sempron isn't 64, as some are). Other then the small price difference, why not go with A64 proc?
As if it matters -- hype about 64-bit is useless at best. 64-bit extensions do not give anyone any better performance to speak of, in fact, 64-bit actually detracts from some benchmark scores. The primary advantage of 64-bit technology is that it allows you to have more than 4 GB of RAM. Who with a Sempron meets that?
Maybe you should check your facts the sempron K8 palermo core is 64 bit.
I guess I missed the part about it being K8 Palermo core
Pickle, there is a definite advantage to going with 64bit. By the end of this year, or the very beginning of next year, Vista will be out. I know if I was buying a new computer, I wouldn't ever even think about going less then 32bit. 32 bit computer will last you for like 3 years max. 64 will last you depending on how high-end you get right now.

Do you have any idea how long it'll be before 4 GB is the equivalent of 1 GB of RAM? When that happens, I'll partly agree with you, Vista will run fine on 512 MB of system memory and it comes in 32-bit and 64-bit flavors. Otherwsie, servers and high-performance clusters are the only ones that stand to truly benefit from 64-bit.

Three years is a good life for a computer, and if you think 32-bit software support going to \"end\" in three years, well that's hardly true. It doesn't take much to move software from 32-bit or 64-bit.
Windows vista might come in 32bit \"Flavours\" but are next gen games? but i guess that also deafeats the purpose of having a sempron 64 bit also, it might run just not good.

I agree. And three years is a liberal estimate. Probably more like 2 or so, but I'm giving the benefit of the doubt. If it doesn't take much to go from 32 bit to 64, everyone will do that really soon.
