While speaking to Game Daily, Glen Wong, the former COO of publisher Red Mile (he left the company in late February) explained that for the upcoming Sin City game, the company had secured rights to the series of graphic novels, and not the forthcoming theatrical sequel.
"We decided that the Sin City graphic novels, with their dark imagesand nonlinear stories, would work better as the basis for aninteractive game," Wong explained, "We don't have to track the linear movie screenplayand try to translate it into a game; we prefer to create an originalstory based on the characters from the books which, we think, will makefor a longer, deeper video game experience."
While a tie-in with the film would have given the small publisher astrong marketing boost, the decision to instead focus on the booksseems to come purely from a creative standpoint. "We wanted to go backto the source material instead of the filtered version that people sawon the big screen," Wong said. He also hopes that the game will be ableto appeal to fans of both the books and the films.
Red Mile only has a few games to its name, including Jackass: The Game, but it appears as if the small publisher is putting most of its resources into creating the Sin City title. The game is being devleoped by Australia-based Transmission Gamesutilizing the Unreal Engine 3, with plans to release the game for theXbox 360, Wii, and PlayStation 3, although no release window has beenannounced.
It looks as though Red Mile's plan is to turn Sin Cityinto a gaming franchise. "We'd like to finish game No. 1 in ayear-and-a-half," Wong said, "and then turn out a sequel every otheryear after that."
