Many mac users will have heard of Quicksilver, for those who don’t Quicksilver is an application launcher and more. Taken from the Quicksilver website:
Quote:
When opened, it [Quicksilver] will create a catalog of applications and some frequently used folders and documents. Activate it, and you can search for and open anything in its catalog instantly. The search is adaptive, so Quicksilver will recognize which items you are searching for based on previous experience. It also supports abbreviations, so you can type entire words, or just fragments of each. When not in use, Quicksilver vanishes, waiting for the next time you summon it.
Skylight is Quicksilvers alternative on the Windows platform (supports XP and Vista), from the guys at Candylabs, who do have some experience in application launchers, this is a good choice for anyone wanting an application launcher for Windows, it’s launched by press Alt+Space you are then greeted with a with a small application window and as soon as you start typing an applications name the application will appear along with it’s icon, like Quicksilver, Skylight will index documents but will not index music and videos. An exciting feature of Skylight (again like Quicksilver) is it’s plugins, at the moment the application supports one plugin, the Windows Shell/File System scanner plugin, however a plugin for Windows Live Messenger is expected soon, which will allow you to search your live contacts as well as message them inside Skylight.
All in all Skylight is a great product for the little time it’s been out and it’s going to improve greatly.
Ugh god, I installed it not expecting much of it and somehow came away hating it's guts. It's slow as hell, it occasionally stops responding, and often doesn't obey the hotkey until 4 or 5 presses and it leaves a dirty little invisible entry in the taskbar (only shows an icon, no name). It could be something great but it seems horridly bloated at the moment.
